Four buildings and the Therme
The hotel's main building and the three ancillary buildings Tomül, Zerfreila and Selva constitute a contrasting and yet harmonious composition in which the Therme is inserted. Built halfway into the mountain, the Therme is directly linked with the main building. From the Temporaries you can access the Therme entrance directly with the lift.
House Selva is connected with the main building via a skywalk which also grants direct access to the Therme.
Reduction and sensuality
Through a sense of esteem for the constructed legacy of another era, Peter Zumthor redesigned 60 rooms and expanded the Red Restaurant without altering the fundamental structure of the hotel. His interventions in the hotel building are no manifestos of modern architecture, but remain obligated to the style of the house in a surprising manner.
Peter Zumthor considers himself an author. The configuration of facilities is not restricted to the building's architecture. It finds its continuation and perfection in furnishings and objects as well as reduction and sensuality contrived and selected with the utmost care, and subtly geared to details.
