The Therme

«Mountain, stone, water - building in the stone, building with stone, into the mountain, building out of the mountain, being inside the mountain - how can the implications and the sensuality in the association of these words be interpreted, architecturally? The whole concept was designed by following up these questions; so that it all took form step by step.»
Peter Zumthor

Musikalische Wurzeln der Schweiz im Fusion Sound
Concert at the Therme | 11 PM
New Arrangements of Traditional Alpine Music: Swiss Folk Music, Dance, Folk, World Music, Pop

Aërope creates a new kind of music that preserves its ties to the musical roots of Switzerland. In this way Swiss folk music mixes with popular music from the past seven decades – tradition, the past, and the present, openness in the face of the new and the other.

Christine Lauterburg
Began playing the violin as a child, studied teaching and acting (Bern University of the Arts), worked as an actress from 1980 to 1990, primarily for stage and film. From 1980 on she performed with different groups. Her interest in Swiss folk music grew. With “Echo der Zeit”(1994) she implemented her idea of bringing Swiss folk music together with modern dance beats, pop music, and sampling. The album stayed in the Swiss hit parade for nineteen weeks. In her next two albums “Paradiesvogel” (1996) and “Alles bleibt anders” (2006) she continued to experiment with new ideas in style and diversity. Christine Lauterburg has performed in concert in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, the USA, China, Japan, and Africa. She is a guest singer for the groups Echo and Doppelbock. “Aërope” came out early in the spring of 2008 – after seventeen years this was the second album of music made exclusively by her.

Markus Flückiger
As Dieter Ringli writes in his book “Schweizer Volksmusik”: Markus Flückiger is the best Schwyzerörgeli player in Switzerland. Flückiger started playing this regional variation of a diatonic button accordion when he was six and for a time eagerly emulated his role models Rees Gwerder, Peter Zinsli, and Josias Jenny. Over the years he has developed his own style. In his compositions as well as his virtuoso playing he pushes the limits of harmonics, rhythm, and phrasing in conventional “ländler” music.

Andi Hug
As a boy he was a drummer in the village marching band and received a solid musical foundation through piano lessons. He plays folklore, jazz, experimental music, performs with small bands and big street bands, composes film and theater music. From 1990 to 2002 he was the drummer in the band Stop The Shoppers. Today he plays with songwriter Tinu Heiniger and has been the drummer in the pop band Patent Ochsner since 2002.

Hank Sizzle
“Those who care about these things have been knowing for a long time that Hank Sizzle is the best roots-rock songwriter and guitar player who’s not hailing from the the us. And that he would still be one of the best even if he came from the Promised Land,” wrote the Rolling Stone magazine in 1998.

Michel Poffet
For decades he has been regarded as one of the most accomplished double bassists in the Swiss music scene, particularly well-known as a jazz musician. Since 2004 he has been a member of Matter Live, a quartet with Uele Schmezer at its core that only plays songs by Mani Matter.
